An elegant basalt baluster shaped
jug. Impressed, on the base, 'Birch' and also impressed with a small flower
shape at the base of the handle. Edmund John Birch was a potter at Albion
Street, Shelton, Staffordshire from 1796 to 1814. This jug dates from c.1800.
Size: 18.5cm. (7 1/4") high. This piece is very finely potted. It has engine
turning to the lower section of the body, a fine moulded detail under the spout
and the most amazing ear shaped handle. It has two very tiny chips to the
inside of the top rim but otherwise is in excellent condition. The chips are

A set of six fine quality, early
nineteenth century, green glazed plates. Unmarked except for a small workmans'
mark in the form of a cross on three of them. Date: c.1820. Size: 21cm. (8
1/4") diameter. They are all very crisply moulded with a combination of leaves.
They are all in excellent condition. There is another piece from the same
service lower down on this page. |

A green, majolica glazed comport.
Unmarked. Date: c.1870. Size: 30cm. (11 3/4") long by 21.5cm. (8 1/2") wide by
11cm. (4 1/4") high. This comport would have been part of a dessert service,
for serving fruits. It is crisply moulded, to the inside and the foot, with
leaves. There are two very small chips to the rim and slight scratching to the

An unusual commemorative childs'
plate. Unmarked. Date: c.1880. Size: 18cm. (7") diameter. This plate is moulded
with an ABC border. To the centre is a black transfer print which is
overcoloured in blue red and green enamels. The print shows the Prince of
Wales, Victorias eldest son, who later became Edward VII, as a young man. Under
the bust of Edward, within the transfer, are the Prince of Wales feathers and
the emblems of the United Kingdom. This piece is in excellent condition. |

A brown glazed earthenware jug with
yellow transfer print. Unmarked. Date: c.1820. Size: 14.5cm. (5 3/4") high.
This type of pottery is often attributed to the Portobello pottery in Scotland
but this piece is more like that produced by the Scott Brothers of Southwick
pottery, Sunderland. The overall yellow transfer is typical of their style but
the design is very unusual. The piece is in excellent condition. Click on

A Spode blue transfer printed
platter. Marked: 'SPODE' in blue tranfer print and also impressed. Date:
c.1830. Size: 43cm. (17") long by 34cm. (13 1/2") wide. This piece is transfer
printed in blue with a good botanical print which is then over enamelled in
ochre. The effect is quite striking. The platter is in excellent
condition. |

An unusual transfer printed and
enamelled creamware childs mug. Unmarked. Date: c.1830. Size: 5cm. (2") high.
This mug is printed with a scene of a woman on a donkey. The verse
reads: 'Markets done my goods all sold, Come up Bess for I am
cold.' The red/brown tranfer is coloured in yellow and green enamels and the

A small moulded prattware perfume
bottle. Unmarked. Date: c.1790. The sides are moulded with different scenes of
cherubs at play. The mouldings are picked out in typical pratt colours of
green, blue and ochre. This is a very unusual item and it is in excellent
condition. There are two marks, one on the base and one on the rim, which are
the result of it touching against something in the kiln. Click on

spongeware decoration. Unmarked. Date: c.1850. Size: 21.5cm. (8 1/2") diameter.
This style of decoration is much more commonly found on utility items. The
centre of the plaque has a painted floral design and this is within a sponged
border. It is in excellent condition. |

print shows a figure in the forground and an abbey on the hill behind. There is
a detailed floral border and all of the decoration is in a good cobalt blue.
