A Victorian breadboard with a deeply carved border. This board is carved in beechwood and it dates from c.1880. The border is well carved with flowers, buds, leaves and barley. The carving is very well detailed and shows minimal signs of wear. The border of this board is painted, giving a very pale appearance to the wood. This was probably done when the board was originally carved, in order to protect the wood as it dried out. It had been painted all over but the paint has now been removed from the centre of the board where it was scratched. There are a couple of small losses to the rim.
