A large, late 17th century, cast brass, pierced skimmer with fishtail end to handle. This type of skimmer was used in the kitchens, for skimming stocks and preserves, and also in the dairy for skimming cream. This example is cast in one piece and has a worn, circular makers mark, at the end of the handle near to the skimmer.
There are two very short splits in the brass where the handle meets the skimmer. Otherwise it is in good condition.
Dimensions: Length 62.2cm. Diameter of skimmer 20cm.
