An extremely well carved Victorian breadboard dating from c.1860. This is probably carved from sycamore but it is difficult to see the grain in the wood properly as, over the years, it has been applied with wax which has given the board a dark patina. This works well with this board as it makes the design stand out well. The border, which is deeply carved with flowers, barley and acorns, has scalloped edges which are quite unusual. There is an inner, zigzag and rope twist border around the central, flat surface. The board is in excellent condition.
