A super quality, Victorian bread knife with a carved wooden handle. The steel blade is engraved with “Bread Knife” in an ornate script and above this is a manufacturers mark which includes “V R” to either side of a crown but the rest of the mark is too worn to read. The handle is delightfully carved with wheat, foliage and flowers and the carving still has fabulous depth and quality. The wood has a tight grain and is probably a fruitwood. There is pitting to the steel blade and a couple of very tight cracks in the wood where the handle is attached to the blade but this is all very minor and can be seen in the images.
