An early 20th century, carved oak breadboard. Breadboards were usually carved from either sycamore or beechwood, as these woods were more suitable for this type of use, so it is unusual to find one carved from oak. This is carved with the word “Bread” and there are deeply carved leaves to the lower section of the border. There are numerous scratch marks to the face of the board, from use, but otherwise it is in very good condition and the carving still has very good depth. It dates from c.1920.
Dimensions: Diameter 29cm. Depth 2.5cm.
