A very well carved, Victorian beechwood breadboard. This board is dates from c.1880. The design is quite unusual as it incorporates a winding stem with stylised leaves and wheat. The carving is quite deep and it is well detailed. A dark stain has been applied to the rim of the board and the rest has a rich patina. There is a crack in the rim of the board. This is more obvious on the reverse of the board and, at first it appears that a piece may have been broken off and put back. However, it hasn’t but there is movement in the crack so this would not be a board for use. It is purely decorative.
