An interesting, 19th century, child’s alphabet plate. This is transfer printed and coloured, with a scene ‘AESOP’S FABLES THE DOG IN THE MANGER” to the centre. The rim is printed with attractive border designs to either side of the alphabet. The print is a nice quality and the plate dates from c.1860. There is no damage but there is a lot of crazing to the glaze and some staining. There is also a piece of clay stuck to the back of the plate. This must have occurred during the manufacture. This can all be seen in the images.
