Davenport, creamware supper set

Davenport, creamware supper set

Code: H20591

SOLD

A superb, Davenport creamware supper set comprising four covered dishes and a central comport all set on it’s original, mahogany tray which has brass handles. The base to each segment is marked “Davenport” around an impressed anchor. This lower case mark was only used, for a short period at the start of the companies history, between 1793 and 1810 so this accurately dates the set to c.1800.

It is well decorated, in bright polychrome enamels, with blue and red flowers and green foliage. There are brown enamel rims to each piece which compliment the rich colour of the mahogany tray.

Condition: One of the smaller, covered dishes has a short, hairline crack to the rim and some staining. There is also a crack across one of the handles on the lid of this dish. The base to one of the larger dishes is stained. All other parts are in very good condition and the enamelling is still very bright.

This is a very smart and impressive piece and it is quite difficult to find such items complete.

Dimensions: Overall length 55cm. Width 50cm. height 14.5cm.
