A rare, early 19th century, Spode black basalt jug. This is impressed “SPODE” to the base. This is a mark which is not often found on basalt, making it a highly desirable piece for collectors. It is moulded with classical Adam’s urns in the central panels and these are flanked by classical figures offering sacrifices. It dates from c.1820 and it is in excellent condition.
