A charming, and rare, Sunderland creamware mug dating from c.1810. This mug is decorated with a black transfer print which is then highlighted with coloured enamels. The motto, in the ribbon at the base of the print, reads 'WITHIN THE ARK SAFE FOREVER'. This is the motto of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights which was established in London in 1783. The design above shows a ship within a cartouche, with a sailor to each side and an ark above. The print and enamelling is still in fabulous, bright condition.

There is a tiny chip on the rim and from this runs a very faint, hairline crack which is about 5cm. long. There was also another crack, which has now been well restored and is barely noticeable.

Price includes postage within the U.K. and Western Europe. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £20.
