An interesting, bone handled, steel knife and fork. The knife blade has a manufacturers mark ‘GEORGE BUTLER TRINITY WORKS ***BANY SHEFFIELD ART’ beneath a crown and the initials ‘V.R’. This mark is sometimes seen on the bread knives with carved wooden handles, and the knife and fork date from c.1870. The fork is three pronged and on the reverse it is marked ‘STEEL’. The matching bone handles are carved with quite an intricate geometric design which is now worn with use. There is a crack in the bone handle of the knife and there is also slight pitting to the steel blade but this all adds to the charm of the set.
