An impressive collection of shells. It is possible that this collection was put together in the 19th century. The selection here is quite exotic and has probably come from all around the world. A few of the shells have old collectors labels which give the latin names. What is quite fascinating is the amazing variety of colour and shape. They vary is size from the largest, which is 32cm. long by 18cm. wide, to the smallest, which is 6.5cm. long by 5.5cm wide. The colours range from dark brown and black, to vibrant pinks and oranges to almost pure white, and the shapes are equally diverse. Some are incredibly heavy, whilst others are remarkably light and some of the interiors of the shells are even more beautiful than the exteriors. This is a fabulous ready made collection that would fill a shelf or two of a display case.
