A steel cleaver in the shape of a muntjac deer. This would have been used, in the confectioners kitchen, for cutting sugar or ice. It is quite naturalistically shaped and the handle is made from aluminium, with brass rivets. It is French and it dates from c.1890. There is pitting to both the blade and the handle, from use, but otherwise it is in good condition.
