A rare, 19th century, French steel ice or sugar cleaver in the shape of a woman. This is a fabulous quality piece dating from c.1860. The naked female figure is well shaped and there is engraved detail to the hair and face. The handle is in the form of her boot and this is carved from rosewood. It is held in place by a combination of brass and copper rivets, of varying sizes, which give beautiful detail to the boot. Although we have had cleavers in the shape of female figures before they are uncommon and this is probably the best quality example that we have had. It is in excellent condition, with just very slight pitting to the steel from use.
Dimensions: Length 36cm. Height 16.7cm. Width of handle 2.6cm.
