A steel ice or sugar cleaver in the shape of a squirrel. This dates from c.1920. The handle is made from two different colours of bakelite and this is attached by brass rivets. Bakelite was first patented in 1909 and soon became popular in the manufacture of kitchenware due to its’ heat resistant qualities. The cleaver is in very good condition, with just very minor pitting to the steel, from use.
