A very unusual, steel herb or vegetable chopper. This is a beautifully made piece of kitchen equipment. Usually this type of chopper is very simple in form with a single, curved blade with handles at either end. This example is twin bladed, with an attractive cast design above the blades, and the parts have lovely quality, brass fittings to hold it together. The wooden handles are turned from beech. It dates from c.1880 and it is in very good, usable condition. The blades are still very sharp but there are short splits in both of the wooden handles.
