A nineteenth century, French copper colander. This piece has quite a rustic, steel handle and a wired rim and it dates from c.1850. There is slight splitting between a couple of the pierced holes and there is also evidence of an old brased repair. This is all commensurate with the age of the piece. Originally it would have been tinned all over but the tinning has been removed from the exterior, revealing the copper. The tinning to the interior is worn so this would now only be for decorative use.
