An interesting, 19th century, French copper measure. This is a simple, straight sided form and it has brass banding to the top and also to the base. It dates from c.1830. It would probably have been a measure for liquids although grain was also measured in decalitres. It is marked, on the side, ‘DEMI DECALITRE’ so it would hold 5 litres. There are numerous other marks. To the top brass band are various weights and measures marks and there is the name ‘MANGIN’ stamped to one side. These can all be seen in the various images. It is in very good condition and, due to its’ size, would make an excellent wine or champagne cooler.
