A nineteenth century, French copper grain measure. This type of measure were banded and made in a shape to resemble a drum. The copper was often decorated but this one is plain in form, with wide, hollowed handles. It is made from a heavy gauge of copper and it dates from c.1880. There is splitting to the top rim and it has obviously been used as a coal bin as there is denting in the base consistent with this type of use.
Dimensions: Height 25cm. Diameter 33.5cm. Width across the handles 42cm.
