A really good quality, 19th century, French copper grain measure with attractive, tooled decoration. This type of grain measure was made to resemble a drum in shape and this example is well made, from a very heavy gauge of copper. It dates from c.1860. The design, around the central band, has been applied using the circular end of a tool and this has been tapped into the interior of the measure leaving the design visible on the exterior. The piece is in excellent condition.
