A large, 19th century, French copper grain measure with brass fittings. The ornamentation on this measure is quite interesting. Using a pointed tool a design has been hammered inside the piece. This then gives a textured finish to the exterior, displaying elements of the design but not showing the design in full. There are brass handles and brass fittings to the top and bottom which make the measure resemble a drum. It is well made, from a heavy gauge of copper, and it dates from c.1880. It is in very good condition with just a couple of very minor splits on the top rim which can be seen in the images.
