Large copper gypsy kettle

A large, English copper gypsy kettle. These were known as gypsy kettles as they were used over open fires, but they were also used in large kitchens, on ranges, and they were basically for boiling water. This one is made from a heavy gauge of copper, it has castellated seams and it dates from c.1860. The brass tap is marked ‘HICKMAN’ but the pot is unmarked. The steel handle, for hanging, is attached by heart shaped steel fittings and the piece is very decorative. It is in very good condition.
