A very unusual, large copper blancher. This would have been used inside a large pot and would have been for blanching or steaming vegetables. It is made from a heavy gauge of copper and has a castellated seam up the side. The seam around the base and the rim are both rolled and the handle is quite crudely attached. It is probably blacksmith made and dates from c.1870. The base is dented, from use, but otherwise it is in good condition. Originally the interior was tinned but this has now virtually worn away.
