A Victorian steel breadknife with a carved wooden handle. The handle is well carved, with a stylised flower and leaf. The carving is deep and well detailed . The steel blade bears a manufacturers mark ‘HERBERT ROBINSON & CO CANTON WORKS SHEFFIELD’ around an enraged image of a man sitting astride a grinder. It is also marked ‘HAND FORGED’ and it dates from c.1870. There is slight pitting and scratching to the blade but otherwise it is in very good condition and the blade is still very sharp.
