A good quality, oval, Victorian copper mould with a pennytop design to the top. This mould is made from a very heavy gauge of copper and it has a central pipe, so that it would form a border and would cook the contents from the inside as well as the outside. It doesn’t have any manufacturers marks, just a pattern number ’173’, but it is English and it dates from c.1870. The design to the top resembles a row of overlapping copper coins, hence the name pennytop. It is in excellent condition but the tinning to the interior is worn.
