A nineteenth century, French copper skimmer. This type of skimmer was used for skimming preserves or stocks. This example is made from quite a heavy gauge of copper and it dates from c.1880. It is engraved with the letters “H.M” which would have been the initials of a previous owner. It has a turned end, shaped like a shepherd’s crook, so that it can hang when not in use. It is in excellent condition.
