Copper lustre jug with house decoration

Copper lustre jug with house decoration

Code: G20077

SOLD

An early 19th century, copper lustre jug with pink lustre decoration on a blue band.  The lower section of this jug is decorated, with a version of the house pattern, in varying shades of pink lustre. It dates from c.1830. “The house pattern” is a generic term and it was used to describe this type of decoration which was not restricted to houses but also included churches, castles, mills and many other buildings.

There is a small mark on the side of the jug, where something has touched it during the firing process, and there is slight staining to the interior. Otherwise, it is in very good condition and the lustre is still very bright.
