Silver Lustre Jug

Silver Lustre Jug "Birds in Garden"

Code: K23356

SOLD

An early 19th century pearlware jug with silver resist lustre decoration. This jug is boldly decorated with a bird to either side amongst flowers and foliage. To the rim is a further band of flowers and foliage. The design is very detailed and well executed. To create this effect with the lustre the design was painted onto the pot using oils. The piece was then dipped in the silver lustre glaze, which resisted the oils, so the colour of the body of the pot shows through the glaze. This is a charming jug and it is in exceptionally good condition for a piece of this period. There is just very minimal wear to the lustre on the rim. Overall the lustre is still in fabulous, bright condition.
