An early 19th century pearlware jug with silver resist lustre decoration. This jug is boldly decorated with a bird sitting on a fence to either side amongst flowers and foliage. To the rim is a geometric border. The design is very detailed and well executed. To create this effect with the lustre the design was painted onto the pot using oils. The piece was then dipped in the silver lustre glaze, which resisted the oils, so the colour of the body of the pot shows through the glaze. This is a charming jug and it is in exceptionally good condition for a piece of this period. There is only the tiniest of glaze flakes to the rim. The lustre is still in fabulous, bright condition.
