A really good quality, Sunderland lustre jug printed with “THE MARINER’S COMPASS” to one side and a verse “When first I was a foremast man” to the other. Under the spout is a print of a sailing ship. The pink lustre on this jug is a particularly good, light, bright shade and the enamel decoration is also in really good, bright condition. The jug is in remarkably good, clean condition for a piece of this period, with no damage or restoration and there is just a very small flake of pink lustre to the rim.
