A superb,19th century, red marble mortar with an ash pestle. This is a particularly beautiful colour of marble with the red ranging from a pale, almost pink, through to a deep burgundy, with the addition of the white flecking. It has a well polished surface, is Italian and dates from c.1820. The pestle is turned from ash and has a lovely patina. There is very slight chipping to the rim of the mortar, consistent with use, but generally it is in very good condition. The pestle is in excellent condition.
