A very unusual, Victorian salt dish with a carved wooden surround and a glass inset. The surround to this dish is very deeply carved with the word 'Salt', in an attractive script, and a stippled border. The carving is very well detailed. There are two short cracks to the inner rim of the surround. The piece dates from c.1880. The glass dish, to the centre, is not the original as it is slightly too small, but it is in good condition and makes the piece functional.
