A superb, late 18th century, marble mortar with a wooden pestle. The marble is a most unusual pink colour, with a very interesting grain, and the pestle is turned from lignum vitae. They date from c.1780. There are a number of small chips to the marble but this is old damage and is partially hidden by the lovely patina on the marble. The pestle is in very good condition.
Dimensions: Mortar: Height 15.5cm. Width 30.8cm. Pestle: Length 31.5cm. Diameter 7cm.
