A delightful, late 18th century, small, marble mortar with a wooden pestle. The marble is a most unusual dark beige/brown colour with an almost rust coloured grain and the pestle is turned from lignum vitae. They date from c.1780. There is a chip to the rim of the mortar and there is also very minor chipping to the lobes. This is old damage and is partially hidden by the lovely patina on the marble. The pestle is in very good condition.
Dimensions: Mortar: Height 11.2cm. Width 18.7cm. Pestle: Length 20.2cm. Diameter 4.8cm.
