Code: J21540
An early 18th century, red marble mortar with a fruitwood pestle. This is Italian and it dates from c.1720. The mortar is an interesting shade of pinkish red with a tinge of beige. There is slight chipping to the rim and it has worn over the centuries giving it immense character. The pestle is beautifully turned and the shape is most unusual. It does have a number of cracks, where the wood has dried out over the years, so it would no longer be very hygienic to use.
Dimensions: Mortar: Width 18cm. Height 11cm. Pestle: Length 20.2cm. Diameter 5cm.
