A small, 19th century, marble mortar with a wooden pestle. The marble is the most beautiful colour with a blend of grey and a reddish brown. This is referred to as one of the rose varieties. It probably comes from Northern Italy and dates from c.1840. The wooden pestle is later, dating from c.1890, but it is the perfect size for the mortar. Both are in excellent condition.
Dimensions: Mortar: Width 19.6cm. Height 10.7cm. Pestle: Length 18.7cm. Diameter 4.2cm.
