Unusual, 19th Century Marble Mortar

Unusual, 19th Century Marble Mortar

Code: J21971

SOLD

A most unusual shaped and coloured, early 19th century, marble mortar with a single ended, wooden pestle. This is probably from Northern Italy and it dates from c.1820. The marble mortar, which has good patina, has beautiful graining in shades of brownish red to beige. The turned pestle is a lovely shape but the end has seen a lot of use and wear over the years. It could, however, still be used as there are no splits.  The mortar has a few small chips to the rim but otherwise is in very good condition. Dimensions: Mortar: Width 22cm. Height 9cm. Pestle: Length 22.5cm. Diameter 4.3cm.
