This is a really interesting, small, 3 part pewter ice cream mould with a detailed shell design to the top. It is made in the same form as the larger banquet moulds but the amazing thing about this is the size. It is only 7cm. diameter each by 4.2cm. high. We have never seen such small moulds in this form and we have recently purchased two. The other has an intricate flower design to the top. They don’t have any manufacturers marks but they are definitely English and date from c.1860. Each mould is marked with numbers on each section but the numbers differ. The shell has a ‘5’ on the lid, a ’27’ on the top of the middle section, a ’28’ on the lower part of the middles section and a ’28’ on the base. The flower has a ’63’ on the lid, a ’63’ on the top of the middle section, a ’64’ on the lower half of the middles section and a ’62’ on the base.

It is possible that there were many more in the series and these have been put together wrongly. The fact that there are two different numbers on the middle section would mean that each mould had a different number for the top and the bottom sections.

The example with the shell top is in very good condition.
