Rothschild Shallow Saute Pan/Lid

Rothschild Shallow Saute Pan/Lid

Code: J21834

SOLD

An English copper, shallow sauté pan with bronze handles. Originally this would have been a lid to a large casserole but this type of lid, with handles on the sides, doubled as a sauté pan. We no longer have the pan but the lid is still interesting, and useful, in its’ own right. It is marked “SMITH & MATTHEWS 6 HIGH ST BLOOMSBURY. W.C.” and it dates from c.1870. It is also engraved with the initials “L.R” which is the mark of Leonard Rothschild and it has come from Rushbrooke House which was the Suffolk residence of the Rothschild family in the late nineteenth century. It is in excellent condition and the interior has been re-tinned so that it can be used.

Dimensions: Length of pan 42.8cm. Width 21.4cm. Depth of pan 2cm. Overall length of pan and handles 50cm.
