Child's blue printed dinner service

Code: H20824

SOLD

A late 19th century, child’s dinner service with a blue, transfer printed border design. This is a very comprehensive service, consisting of a large tureen, cover, stand and ladle, a small tureen, cover stand and ladle, two vegetable dishes and covers, one sauce boat, four graduated platters, 6 soup plates, 6 dinner plates and 6 dessert plates, 35 pieces in total. Each piece is impressed with a registered design number and a few pieces are also marked with a blue transfer printed mark “MONTAGUE BORDER BISTO B & S”. Montague border is the name of the design and B & S stands for the manufacturers Bishop and Stonier who were potters in Hanley, Stoke on Trent from 1891 to 1939 . This service would date from the early part of the partnership, c.1895.

Amazingly, every piece is in perfect condition so it has probably never been played with by a child even though that is what it would have been made for.

Dimensions: The largest tureen, overall, is 18cm. long by 13cm. wide by 11cm. high. The smaller tureen is 11.5cm. long by 8.5cm wide by 8cm. high. The larger plates are 11.5cm diameter and the smaller plates are 9.6cm. diameter. The platters are graduated from 14.5cm. long down to 11cm.
