19th Century, Cast Iron Apothecary Scales

A great looking, large set of 19th century, cast iron apothecary scales. On the front of the scales is a small, brass plaque relating to the apothecary that the scales were made for. It is marked “V L SAGNIER MONTPELLIER” around the serpent entwined staff of Asclepius. This staff is also a feature of the upright column on which the hand lines up when the balance is achieved.The base of the scales are made from cast iron and the scale pans are brass. There are some weights and measure marks on the scale pans.

French: Date c.1880. 

The scales are being sold complete with a full set of ten Avery brass, bell weights which range from 7lb down to a 1/4 ounce. These are 20th century.
