A late 19th century, French copper sugar pan which has now been tinned for use as a saucepan or milk pan. Originally this would have been used for caramelising sugar but, when they tinned, this shape of pan with the spout, is ideal for hot drinks or sauces. The hollow handle allows the heat to disperse faster than with a solid handle. This example is made for a very heavy gauge of copper and the copper has a slightly planished finish. It dates from c.1890. There is slight scratching to the copper, from use, and there are some deep marks in the copper on the base but these were in the copper when the piece was made. The interior gas been re-tinned so that it can be used.
