Wedgwood "Egyptian" Biscuit Barrel

Code: K23103

SOLD

A very unusual, Wedgwood majolica biscuit barrel with Egyptian influenced, silver plated mounts. This is marked “WEDGWOOD” and it is also impressed with the letters “LFD” which are the date code for the year of manufacture 1875. This was during the Egyptian Revival period in the late 19th century but Wedgwood made very little of this type of piece. The pot has a brown, green and yellow, majolica glaze and the silver plated mounts have ram’s heads to the feet and Sphynx to the lid and handle. There are some marks to the silver plate and these are almost in imitation of English silver marks but they are plate and not silver. It is in excellent condition.

Dimensions: Height 19cm. Diameter 15cm.
