An unusual, 19th century, cast iron charcoal iron. This is French and dates from c.1860. The chimney is in the shape of a strange, mythological creature. To the lid is a wheel which is a very efficient locking mechanism. This is opened so that the charcoal can be put into the iron and there is a covered hole in the back of the iron which allows air into the iron to keep the charcoals burning. It is in excellent condition.
