A small, early 19th century, steel meat cleaver. This is stamped, in the blade, “J & H SORBY”. This is the mark of John and Henry Sorby of Spital Hill, Sheffield and this partnership came to an end in 1828. It is made from cast steel and has a carved oak handle. The piece is very simple in form and it dates from c.1810. 

There is pitting to the steel, commensurate with age and use. Otherwise it is in very good condition. 

Dimensions: Length 27cm. Width 6.5cm. Diameter of handle 3cm.
