An early 19th century, steel and brass meat hook. This would have hung from a spit, over the fire, and the large hooks would grip into a piece of meat, for spit roasting. It is adjustable so that the meat can be moved closer to, or further from, the fire. The brass sections are nicely engraved with a design and the word “PATENTEE” in a number of places. It his English and dates from c.1820. It is in excellent condition and could still be used.
