A 19th century, cast iron coffee mill. This is marked, in the casting, 'MUTZIG FRAMONT' and it dates from c.1890. It is also marked with a number '1'. Mutzig-Framont was a hardware manufacturer in Mutzig, Alsace. Mutzig was in Germany from 1871 until 1918-19, and has been in France since then. The firm was founded in 1873 and closed in 1932. The main body of the piece is cast iron, the cover, which slides open to take the coffee beans, is brass and the draw which contains the coffee after grinding is wooden. The overall effect is very decorative as well as being practical. This example has been overhauled so it could still be used. It is in very good condition.
