A wooden pie mould. This mould is made from beechwood and it dates from c.1860. This type of mould is for making a hand raised pork pie. You would cut a circle of pastry. The mould is then placed into the centre of the circle and the pastry is raised up, around the sides of the mould. The mould would then be removed, the pie filled, and the pastry top put onto the pie. This example has a turned design in the wood to the shoulder of the mould. There are a few hairline cracks in the wood where, over the years, the wood has dried out. Other than this it is in very good condition.
