A 19th century, miniature, cast iron box iron. This is stamped “H. BATES”, beneath a crown, on the opening panel and it dates from c.1880. It is well made and unusual in that it has a brass base. The handle is turned from oak and this does have some wood worm damage which has now been treated. The iron is complete with its heating brick, or slug as they were known, and it is in very good condition.
